The stage is set again with some of the best teams going head-to-head, and Manchester City players have made a great start to the campaign.
Manchester City start the season with goals galore
The Premier League commenced on August 13, and Manchester City kicked off its campaign against Tottenham in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Things didn’t go as planned as City trailed to a Son Heung-min goal, and Spurs prevailed 1-0 in a tough match.
Manchester City players weren’t going to just sit back after that game. They picked themselves up and came back in blistering style against Norwich and Arsenal.
Ten goals in the next two games for Manchester City
Manchester City made a roaring return in their second game against Norwich with a thumping 5-0 win. Gabriel Jesus got the ball rolling with a decisive cross to force an error for the first goal. The ball bounced off Tim Krul as Norwich conceded an own goal. Jesus was on hand again, squaring the ball off for the superstar summer signing, Jack Grealish, who scored his first goal for the club.
Aymeric Laporte scored the third goal with a close-range finish. Cruising at 3-0, Sterling and Mahrez added their names to the score sheet to complete the scoring spree. A great match for the Manchester City players!
A fixture against Arsenal followed this game. The Citizens had a great track record against the north London side going into the fixture, winning nine of their previous ten games. So, Manchester City were the favourites to win the match.
Arsenal began the game with great intensity. However, City took full control of the match as the game progressed. Gundogan scored the first goal with a thumping header past Arsenal goalkeeper, Leno, to give City the lead. Ferran Torres added to the score sheet by converting a close-range finish.
Jesus scored his first goal of the season shortly after that, before Rodri made it 4-0 for the home team with a brilliant side-foot finish. Torres capped off a perfect performance, scoring his second of the evening.
Formidable defence against Leicester City
Manchester City players were in great form with back-to-back 5-0 victories. However, their next game was against Leicester City. They had proven to be tough opponents in recent times, which included a narrow win for them in the Community Shield.
The game started with both the teams playing strategically to maintain parity. In the second half, City broke the deadlock with Bernardo Silva scoring his first goal of the season. While the previous games showcased City’s attacking flair, this game showed their defensive resoluteness.
A touch of class against Chelsea and Liverpool
The games against Chelsea and Liverpool produced some of the best performances from the Manchester City players. The game against the Champions League opponents, Chelsea, was a true battle of wits. Both the teams were locked at 0-0 going into half-time.
However, City emerged victorious with an excellent goal from Gabriel Jesus early in the second half. Manchester City remained resolute throughout the game, not allowing a single shot on target.
The game against Chelsea was quickly followed by an encounter against title rivals, Liverpool. After a tough 2020/2021 season, they were back to their very best, scoring at least three goals in their previous three matches.
After a relatively quiet first half, the second half provided some of the best moments from the match. Liverpool took the lead with Sadio Mane, before City responded with a classy finish from Phil Foden.
Liverpool retook the lead with one of the goals of the season from Mohammed Salah. However, their lead did not last long, with Kevin De Bruyne firing the ball past Alisson. The game ended 2-2, with both the teams providing one of the best matches of the season.
After a challenging first game, City won their next three games, scoring 11 in the process and conceding none. This was followed by impressive performances against title challengers Leicester, Chelsea and Liverpool. They are currently sitting third in the table with fourteen points, only one point behind Liverpool and two behind Chelsea.
The season has gotten off to an exciting start with stiff competition for the summit. However, Manchester City players are performing with flair and style and summer signing Jack Grealish has been in top form for the Citizens.
Signings in the summer
Jack Grealish signed for Manchester City from Aston Villa. It was considered one of the biggest transfers of the summer. He joins a talented group of mid-fielders, and he has quickly established himself in the team. Grealish has started the campaign by scoring on his debut and following it up with an assist for Jesus in the second match against Arsenal.
He had registered six goals and ten assists for Aston Villa in the previous season, guiding them to a mid-table finish. The crafty midfielder comes with a lot of promise, adding flair and drive to the mid-field. He has made a great start to his career at City and could replicate his form from the previous season.
Manchester City also signed goalkeeper Scott Carson from Derby County. He adds depth with his vast experience and can fill in for Ederson and Steffen between the sticks. They have also added Kayky, Dario Sarmiento and Kluiverth Aguilar. All of them arriving as players for the future, with the latter two departing on loan.
Overall, City has made acquisitions in important positions and added to the depth of the squad.

Gabriel Jesus
Gabriel Jesus was voted player of the month for August. The Brazilian striker is in hot form, making four goal contributions in as many matches. He has scored one goal and provided three important assists, including the first goal of the campaign courtesy of an intelligent cross.
The young forward will be looking to make his mark post the departure of club legend Sergio Aguero. Gabriel Jesus had limited chances in the previous season, but he seems on course to cement his place in the first team.
Ferran Torres
The Spanish winger, Ferran Torres, has made a great start to the season with a match-winning performance against Arsenal, scoring a brace and providing an assist for Rodri’s goal.
His quick feet and eye-catching skills have made him one of the fan favourites, and the stage is set for the young winger to shine. We’re looking forward to more amazing performances from the stylish winger.
Aymeric Laporte
Manchester City had the tightest defence last season, allowing just 32 goals in the entire campaign. They have just conceded one goal so far, and Aymeric Laporte has been at the heart of their defence.
Laporte has been rock solid for City at the start of the new campaign. He has started three games and helped City keep clean sheets in all three matches. He also scored an important goal against Norwich with a composed finish.
The Spanish Defender looks solid in the defence in a partnership with Ruben Dias. His dexterity and ability to read the play makes him an important asset to the team. He could potentially prove to be the difference-maker in City’s tough run of fixtures.
What’s ahead for Manchester City players?
After making a great start to the season, Manchester City is poised to reclaim its title. The champions have a quick run of fixtures ahead. They face Burnley at home when they return from the international break. The Clarets have had a slow start to the season, enduring tough games and are currently in the relegation zone. However, they will be looking to bounce back against City.
The tricky game against Burnley is followed by a visit to the Falmer Stadium to face Brighton in the Premier League. The Seagulls have been the season’s surprise package with the same number of points as City in the Premier League. However, they are behind on goal difference. This could prove an entertaining game for the viewers.
Following this interesting game, Manchester City players finish the month with a game against Crystal Palace. After this game, they welcome city neighbours Manchester United for the much-awaited Manchester Derby. The two clubs are currently locked on points, so this fixture could prove to be an important in setting the tone for the rest of the season.
