There’s something soothing about a good rain. But while the monsoon is a treat for your senses, it is not always the gentlest time of the year for your skin. With all the rain, humidity, and grime, it’s natural that you face oiliness, clogged pores, or even fungal infections. But don’t worry – with some smart hacks, your skin care routine can weather the storm.

Why Monsoon Skin Needs Extra Care

During the rainy season, the atmospheric humidity causes your skin to produce excess oil, which clogs pores and results in acne. In fact, Indian dermatologists found that 48% of acne patients reported seasonal worsening, and over 40% reported occurrences during humid months.

Humidity is also an ideal condition for fungi and bacteria to propagate, particularly on moist skin. According to the Indian Journal of Dermatology, superficial fungal infection is seen in up to 25% of the world’s population and in monsoon in tropical areas.

So, how do you maintain your glow without the dirt?

Step 1: Gentle Cleansing: The First Step in Monsoon Skin Care

Wash your face twice a day with a gentle, pH-balanced cleansing product and cool water. Washing or using more severe cleansers more than twice a day can be counterproductive and dry out your skin, making it oilier. Stick to oil-free, non-comedogenic cleansing products that are ideal for daily use in a humid climate.

Step 2: Exfoliation: Remove Dead Skin Cells Effectively

The combination of dead skin cells, dirt, and sweat is why you need exfoliation, but not every day. Try a gentle scrub or an AHA serum once or twice a week to clear pores and keep your skin glowing. Avoid grainy scrubs that can irritate sensitive or acne skin.

Step 3: Hydration: Keep Your Skin Moisturised

Monsoon moisture does not equate to your skin being hydrated. In fact, oily skin can still be dehydrated.

Apply a light, water-based moisturiser with hyaluronic acid or niacinamide to enrich it with active ingredients and hydrate without heaviness. A moisturiser suited to your skin will help lock in moisture while keeping your skin smooth and balanced.

Step 4: Supplements: To Support Your Skin From Within

Topical products can only do so much; your skin also needs support from the inside. Nutritional deficiencies, oxidative stress, and environmental damage during the monsoon can affect your skin’s strength, texture, and radiance.

This is where skin-friendly supplements play a vital role in enhancing your skin care efforts. By providing essential nutrients that may be missing from your diet, they help your skin stay firm, youthful, and resilient.

Nutriplus Skin Health

Try Nutriplus SkinHealth, a science-backed supplement designed to nourish your skin from within. It contains collagen, lycopene, vitamin E, and wheat germ oil that helps improve skin elasticity, glow, and resilience from the inside out.

Step 5: Sun Protection: Don’t Skip Sunscreen

The absence of the sun doesn’t imply that UV rays are no longer there. UV rays may penetrate clouds and can pose a threat to your skin, causing early ageing. Even on gloomy, rainy days, always apply a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or greater before going outside.

Choose a mild, gel type that will not clog pores. Apply every few hours if you’re spending the day outdoors.

Step 6: Combat Oily Skin: Control Excess Sebum

Humidity can make your face look oily. Keep some tissues handy and weekly try a clay or charcoal mask to control shine.  And if you’re wearing makeup, stick to minimal, breathable products. Always cleanse thoroughly before bed to prevent overnight breakouts.

Step 7: Prevent Fungal Infections: Stay Dry and Clean

Monsoon equals moisture on your feet, underarms, and other sweat-prone areas. Unfortunately, the monsoon season also causes fungal infections such as athlete’s foot. Studies show that up to 15% of the global population suffers from tinea pedis (athlete’s foot) at any given time.

Dry thoroughly after bath, wear breathable fabrics, and apply antifungal powder to keep those areas clean. Wear loose clothing made from natural fabrics to reduce sweating and change clothes after a sweating session to avoid moisture buildup.

Maintain Your Skin Care in Monsoon

Taking care of your skin in monsoon doesn’t have to be complicated. Stick to the basics: gentle cleansing, smart exfoliation, proper hydration, supplements for nourishment, sun protection, and fungal care to maintain healthy, glowing skin.

Enjoy the rainy season, your glow-friendly skin care routine has you covered.
