5 monsoon skincare mistakes to avoid

There’s so much to love about the monsoons—relief from the scorching summer heat, lush green surroundings, and bingeing on hot snacks with tea. Along with all things enjoyable, however, the rain also brings along challenges when it comes to caring for the skin. Ever wondered why your skin suddenly seems to break out during monsoons? High humidity is one of the main reasons. A variety of bacteria grow and thrive in humid conditions making your skin more prone to infections. Most of us make the mistake not following a season-specific skincare routine.

Here are some common monsoon skincare slip-ups you should avoid for healthy and nourished skin.

Skipping sunscreen

This is one of the most common mistakes people make during the monsoons. There is a general perception that there is no need for sunscreen when it’s not sunny. However, just because the sun is hidden behind dark clouds it doesn’t mean you don’t need protection from harmful UV rays. Applying sunscreen is non-negotiable—slather it on even if it is pouring outside.

Using heavy make-up

Humidity and dampness can clog the pores of your skin during the rainy season. Applying heavy make-up can make it worse, especially for those with oily and acne-prone skin. Replace your regular oil-based products with water-based versions and let your skin breathe.

Not rinsing enough

That sticky, grimy feeling is all-too-familiar during the monsoons. That’s because oily skin attracts dust. Make sure you rinse away that extra dirt so that your pores do not get clogged. Rinse your face twice or thrice a day to keep your face squeaky clean. Don’t forget to follow it up with a light moisturiser to keep your skin soft and supple.

Giving exfoliation a miss

The build-up of dead cells on the skin can lead it to look tired and dull. Combined with the humidity, it can wreak havoc by blocking your pores. Exfoliating once or twice a week will get rid of the layer of dead skin, revealing fresh and glowing skin. You can also try a face mask that suits your skin type.

Not staying hydrated

Just because you don’t feel as thirsty during the monsoons as you do in the hot summer months doesn’t mean the body doesn’t need hydration. On the contrary, you tend to lose a lot of water content due to sweating. Drinking at least 6-7 glasses of water during the day helps keep your skin clean and glowing.

While you follow some skincare basics, you should also nourish it with some extra care. Skin supplements provide vitamins and antioxidants that can give you skin that’s in.

QNET’s skin supplement Skin Health protects your skin from sun damage and provides essential phytonutrients and antioxidants that are beneficial for your skin.

As direct sellers, we know you are always on the go, but great skin is possible even during the monsoons if you just remember to steer clear of some basic mistakes and make some tweaks to your skincare routine to meet the challenges of the monsoon season head-on.
