6 fun ways to increase your water intake

All of us have wondered at some point in life about how much water to drink in a day? Studies have shown that you need to have a minimum of eight glasses of water daily. While health experts are divided over the exact amount of water to have daily, the fact is that you need enough water to be able to function well.

Our bodies are made of approximately 60% water, and every cell, tissue, and organ in our body needs water to function. Despite how important water is to our survival and optimum functioning, we often don’t pay as much attention to the benefits of drinking water. Our body loses water through breathing, sweating, digestion, and other activities and it’s crucial to rehydrate our bodies. Even mild dehydration can affect you mentally and physically.

If you fall into the category of people who don’t pay enough attention to your daily water intake, you need to up your water game immediately.  Here are a few simple and fun ways to ensure you’re having enough water.

1.  Keep a water bottle with you all the time

Remember, how as a kid you would always carry a bottle of water whether you went to school or to the playground? Well, it will do you good to carry that habit into your adulthood — the bottle works as a visual reminder to drink more water. Also today water bottles have become a style statement, with new shapes and designs hitting the market every day. You can go for a stainless steel one or reuse your wine bottles, or add the splash of earthiness with a clay bottle. Plus, by refilling it instead of buying bottled water, you’re also contributing to a greener world. It’s a win-win, really!

2. Track your water intake

Install an app to track your water intake habit or keep a simple journal. Looking at your records can motivate you to drink more water and the apps also have water drinking reminders. Some apps even have customised sound effects like the sound of water drops or water coming out of a purifier to motivate you to get up and have another glass of water.

3. Make drinking water more fun

 6. Get moving
