Direct selling is a lucrative industry that has grown significantly in the last few decades. Fortune magazine once called direct selling (of which network marketing is the largest segment) “the best kept secret in the business world.” According to the latest statistical report from the World Federation of Direct Selling Association (WFDSA), the industry generated annual sales of US$182 billion in 2015!
Financial experts often refer to this as a “recession-proof” industry. Tom Peters, author of In Search of Excellence, calls it the first truly revolutionary shift in marketing in the last 50 years.
Why is this business booming?
The main reason so many people are entering network marketing is that it fits current marketing trends. People are looking for unique products that will enhance their lifestyles, help them look and feel younger, improve the quality of their lives and for ways to secure their financial future and enjoy more time freedom. Network marketing offers the answers.
Tired of the corporate rat race, many people are starting home businesses in record numbers. Network marketing is one of the hottest home businesses available today. It offers low start-up cost and monthly overhead, and entrepreneurs can start part-time, while still employed, and build the business to replace their current job income.
Is Network Marketing for You?
There is no perfect or right type of person for network marketing. Age, gender, culture, and race are no barriers in this business.
There’s a common myth that network marketing is all about selling. So many people who don’t see themselves as “salespeople” shy away from it. The truth is, most of the people who are a huge success in network marketing aren’t what you call typical salespeople. If fact, you will be surprised to know that many tend to be introverted.
We spoke to some of the top income earners in QNET and found that most of them hate selling. They built their business by listening to people’s needs and wants, and then providing an answer. They asked questions to uncover problems. They realised that people are not always looking for products or services, or even business opportunities; they’re looking for solutions to life’s problems.
Some were looking for a way to save up for retirement, others wanted to build an education fund for their children, a couple was trying to find the means to buy their dream home, a busy working mother wanted to have enough time to spend with her family, someone else wanted to get out of debt. Another guy was desperate to lose weight and get healthy, a woman from a small town was introverted and had very little confidence talking to people in a big city…
Top leaders warn that network marketing cannot solve all of their problems, but they have found that when a person’s reason — the WHY— is strong enough, they take this business seriously and their WHY fuels them to succeed. Ask any top leader in QNet and they will tell you they are not in the sales business. They prefer to be referred to as people in a problem-solving and dream-building business.
The biggest reasons people are flocking to network marketing are time leverage, residual income, and tax benefits. Network marketing is one of the few businesses that doesn’t require employees, yet enables the owner to leverage his or her time by building a network of independent businesspeople. This network, which purchases and sells products or services, generates a residual income for the owner over a period of time.
Another key reason why an entire new generation of people are interested in network marketing is the Internet. Millennials are the digital generation spending a large part of their lives online. Success requires a business owner to build a large network of people who buy and sell products and services and sign up others who’ll do the same. The Internet now enables network marketers to build national and international businesses from the comfort of their home. No more early-morning alarms and high-stress commute in heavy traffic; a lot of the work can be done from your home from either your computer of your mobile device.
